The SA-2 Guideline is a scale model rocket kit from Rocketarium that replicates the original surface-to-air missile developed by the Soviet Union during the Cold War era. The Soviet designed surface-to-air missile was the first to actually take down an enemy aircraft in flight. The SA-2 Guideline was deployed near Soviet cities, such as Moscow, to defend against USAF bombers during the cold war. Later, they were also used in East Germany.
The kit includes laser-cut balsa fins, a blow-molded nose cone, and a durable body tube.
With a length of 67,6 cm and a diameter of 56 mm (with Tail Cone), this model rocket has an estimated weight of 176 g, making it suitable for launching with a range of 24mm standard model rocket engines. The kit comes with a detailed set of instructions and decals that add an authentic touch to the finished model.
The SA-2 Guideline rocket is an Advanced rocket kit, meaning that previous experience with model rocketry is recommended. The construction of the rocket involves gluing and sanding of the fins, attaching the canards, and painting and applying decals to the body tube.
As this rocket uses “D” or “E” type engines, you need a launch pad that accepts a 5 mm launch rod (available separately) to launch it, like the Estes Porta Pad “E” or the Aerotech Mantis, and an electric launch controller like the Estes “E” launch controller. If you plan to use only D engines you can also use the Estes Astron II Launch Controller, the Estes Electron Beam or the Klima Launch Controller.
To use Aerotech motors you need a 12 volt launch controller as the Aerotech Interlock Controller, or the Estes PS II Launch Controller. If you plan to use an F motor we strongly suggest to use a 6 mm launch rod with a large and stable pad like the Estes PS II or the Aerotech Mantis.
