This tiny data-logging altimeter was designed specifically for FAI competition, but can be used from any modeller who needs an altimeter for a small rocket powered even by A, B and C motors. It easily fits into a coupler for an 18mm tube and weighs only 2 grams (with included battery). It records 48 seconds of flight data that can be analyzed after recovery. It is the smallest production altimeter available.
The CR1025 battery holder is mounted on the back side of the board, so there are no external wires or batteries to manage. Extra batteries can be purchased at any shop or supermarket that sells hearing-aide batteries. The battery capacity is 30mAh, which is sufficient to run for over 40 hours. Because MicroPeak powers down on landing, run time includes only time sitting on the launch pad or during flight.
MicroPeak reports the maximum height of the last flight in decimeters using a sequence of flashes on the LED. A sequence of short flashes indicates one digit. A single long flash indicates zero. As the height is reported in decimeters, the last digit will be tenths of a meter. For example, if MicroPeak reports 7 2 2 5, then the maximum height of the last flight was 722,5 m.
You can also download the flight data off the unit using the MicroPeak USB Adapter (sold separately) connected to your computer. From there, it will report the altitude and other characteristics of your rocket.
