The Rocketarium AMRAAM is a almost-scale flying model of the famous air-to-air missile, powered by D and E motors, easily recognizable for its two sets of fins, one of wich is mounted toward the nose.
If you like military scale missiles, the AMRAAM is your choice. This kit, in fact, is the only one on the market in this size, filling the void left from the old Estes Amraam which was smaller anyway.
The kit has detailed and complete instructions, very good quality body tubes, and basswood, laser cut centering rings and fins.
The kit includes also a nice decal sheet, crowded with many warnings, signs, and everyting is printed on the real missile. Cutting and placing them takes time and needs a good accuracy. This adds more fun to the assembling of this rocket.
One nice feature of this kit is its ejection gas baffle, which eliminates the need for flameproof wadding. The baffle forces the ejection gases to follow a curved path and protects the parachute from being hit by hot particles. We suggest you to use a little wadding anyway, or a single flameproof Estes sheet.
Although the manufacturer suggest “E” and even “F” type motors for this rocket, we do not suggest to use anything bigger than a small “E”. A more powerful E or an F motor can easily make this 100 gr rocket disappear in the sky...!
Recovery is by a plastic parachute, included.
Features:
As this rocket uses “D” or “E” type engines, you need a launch pad that accepts a 5 mm launch rod (available separately) to launch it, like the Estes Porta Pad “E” or the Aerotech Mantis, and an electric launch controller like the Estes “E” launch controller. If you plan to use only D engines you can also use the Estes Astron II Launch Controller, the Estes Electron Beam or the Klima Launch Controller.
To use Aerotech motors you need a 12 volt launch controller as the Aerotech Interlock Controller, or the Estes PS II Launch Controller. If you plan to use an F motor we strongly suggest to use a 6 mm launch rod with a large and stable pad like the Estes PS II or the Aerotech Mantis.
